Task Four – Analyse the track

Below are the lyrics to Passion Pit's Take a walk, the song which I am looking to create the music video for. Before i am able to create the music video i should first analyse te track so that i know what i should included in the video and also just get an understanding of what the song is about. By getting the meaning of the song and understanding the lyrics this should make it easier for me to know how i want the music video to feel and the shots that would create this feeling.

The story of this song from what i have heard is about someone who s going through some bad times and in order to make it better he decided to take a walk.

The annotations on the lyrics consist of what i feel would go best for that part of song in the music video and also what i think when i read and hear it. The first line is what has provided us with the premise of the music video. 'All these kinds of places' This is the part of the song which we took to make the music video as having a lot of different locations. The next line is 'Makes it seem like it's been ages' and the effect that this has is although there have been so many places that he has seen it makes him feel as though a lot of time has passed whereas in reality it has only been a short time. The next shot is self explanatory and we will look for a shot of standing outside a station trying to sell some flowers.

The line "we were still alone, my wife and I" shows how they were the only ones they knew and had no one else to go to. The next few lines say how he is rarely able to see his family which adds to the previous lines of saying they were alone. After talking about his state of relationships he then goes for a walk.

The song then goes on to reassure himself that even hough there are bad things happening "times could be much worse" and trying to remain positive. He then goes on to explain why he is trying to remain positive by saying he has no money but he doesn't want his wife to go around with no money. He explains how he has children and never wants them to experience what he has with "never feel my strife"

     

The final verse is how he ended up in the situation that he is in and says how it was bad investments that went wrong and ended up losing all of his money. We know that this has happened in the past because he says about how he "had a lifestyle of fun". The characters in the song have grown older which is talked about when he says they will "make love like they're young" right near the end of the song it says how he has go ten to the end and has resolved to pleading because of what he has been through and happened to him.

The overall message for this song i that he takes a walk in order to clear his mind and escape from his problems.
